Cleaner the teeth, healthier the heart
By Isaac Kim A study shows brushing your teeth keeps the heart healthy, reports the Journal of the American Heart Association. A research team from Columbia University studied the relation between oral hygiene and heart conditions of 420 people over three years. According to the research, healthy gums reduce the plaque in the bloodstream. Plaque hardens the arteries, which complicates the heart and may lead to a cardiac disorder. Oral bacteria that causes periodontitis can become plaque in the bloodstream, explained the research team. “Regularly brushing your teeth and visiting your dentist is another important aspect to keep your heart healthy,” said Dr. Moise Desvarieux. |
