Posted : 2014-04-14 18:12 Updated : 2014-04-14 18:27 Istanbul, Rome beat Paris, New York as top tourist destinations Paris has been knocked off the number one spot of the world’s top destination ― with Istanbul now firmly in first place, the Daily Mail reports. Despite announcing record tourist figures for 2013, the French capital lost out to Turkey, dropping to seventh in this year’s Travellers' Choice Destinations awards, voted for by millions of holidaymakers. A newcomer to the top 10, Istanbul swooped in to the number one position, just ahead of Rome, which itself rose two places from fourth last year. New York was gazumped by Rome from second place, falling out of the top 10 of the TripAdvisor list to number 12, figures released today show. Siem Reap 10. Shanghai  However, London managed to retain the same position as last year, holding fast to its title as the third best destination in the world. The U.K. capital was also named the third best destination in Europe and the scooped the number one spot in the U.K. This year’s fourth place in the world’s top destinations awards went to China’s Beijing, followed by the Czech Republic’s Prague to make up the top five. As well as New York, the States also saw San Francisco disappear from the top 10, meaning the States isn’t featured at all in the list, which is compiled from user-generated reviews for hotels, attractions and restaurants over 12 months. Australia also lost out, seeing Sydney fall out of the top 10, from last year's tenth place. Morocco’s Marrakech was ranked in sixth place, with Vietnam’s Hanoi eighth, Cambodia’s Siem Reap ninth, and China’s Shanghai tenth. James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesman, said: “These awards are based on millions of reviews and ratings by those that really matter ― travellers themselves. “There is no doubt the birth of the royal baby helped keep the eyes of the world on London in 2013, but the capital’s continued appeal among travellers around the world surpasses any one event.” Gordon Innes, the Chief Executive of London & Partners, said: “We’re delighted that London has come out as the third best destination in the world in the annual Travellers’ Choice Destinations awards.  “During the last year we’ve seen record numbers of visitors to the capital, who have enjoyed everything our great city has to offer.” jakenho@koreatimes.co.kr,

죽기전에 이것만은... 영국 데일리메일이 4월 7일, 전세계 관광명소 TOP10을 발표했다. 이TOP 10은 2012년, 에스토니아 컴퓨터 과학분야 전문가 Tannel Tammet 교수가 구글맵을 이용해서 만든 관광명소지도를 바탕으로 선정됐다. 관광명소지도는 인기가 제일 많은 곳은 노란색, 그 다음으로 오렌지색, 핑크색, 자주색으로 표시돼 있어 관광객들은 관광명소 및 도시를 편리하게 찾을 수 있게 제작됐다. 이 지도에 나온 인기명소는 관광객들이 구글의 파노라미오 (Panoramio 구글맵위에 실제 그 장소에서 찍은 사진을 공유하는 프로그램)에 업로드한 사진 수량에 따라 정해졌다. TOP 10중 뉴욕이 1위를 차지했다. 하지만 매우 놀라운 사실은 사진 속 출현 빈도가 가장 많은 명소가 우리에게 익숙한 엠파이어 스테이트 빌딩 (Empire State Building)이나 자유의 여신상(Statue of Liberty)이 아니라 구겐하임 미술관(Guggenheim Museum)이라는 사실이다. 문예부흥시기에 지어진 로마 트리니타 데이 몬티(Trinita Dei Monti) 성당이 뉴욕 구겐하임 미술관(Guggenheim Museum)에 이어 2위를 차지했다. 3위는 스페인 천재 건축가 안토니 가우디(Antoni Gaudi)가 지은 바르셀로나 구엘공원(Park Guell)이다. 4위는 프랑스 파리의 전통 카바레 '물랭 루즈'(Moulin Rouge)로 놀랍게도 에펠탑을 제치고 파리에 가장 유명한 관광명소가 됐다. 5위는 12세기에 세워진 이스탄불 메이든 탑(Maiden’s Tower)이 차지했다. 6위는 베네치아의 대운하 Grand Canal 를 건너게 해주는 4개의 다리 중 하나인 아카데미아 다리 (Ponte dell’Accademia). 7위는 제임스 본드 시리즈 영화에서 등장한 파리 호텔. 모나코의 몬테카를로에 있다. 8위 피렌체 미켈란젤로 광장(Piazzale Michelangelo)에서는 아름다운 도시 전경을 바라볼 수 있다. 9위 아르헨티나 수도 부에노스아이레스에 있는 카미니토(Caminito) 거리의 양측은 형형색색의 건물과 예술가들의 노점들이 빽빽하게 늘어서 있다. 헝가리 수도 부다페스트에 있는 성 스테판 바실리카(St Stephen’s Basilica) 성당이 마지막 10위를 차지했다.
